For detritivores :
1. Float the bag with the new fish in the tank for 15-20 minutes to equalize the water temperature in the bag with the water temperature in the tank.
2. For starfish : These items must never be exposed to air. Open the bag underwater and free the specimen from the bag underwater. Put the starfish upside down to eliminate all air that could annoy it. After you remove the item twist the shipping bag closed underwater and discard the shipping bag and all of the water in it. A small amount of shipping water will escape into the tank, but our shipping water is safe and will not harm your tank. This method will ensure the best acclimation possible to your specimens.
For all other invertebrates : Take the bag out of the tank and cut off the top of the bag. Then follow steps 3 to 7.
3. Pour one-half cup of aquarium water into the bag every 5 minutes until the bag is nearly full.
4. Empty half of the bag of its water. Do not pour the water of the bag in the tank.
5. Add one-half cup of aquarium water every 5 minutes until the bag is nearly full again.
6. Remove the invertebrate from the bag and place it in the tank.
7. When placing a detritivore in the tank, place it up straight, overmore if it's an Astrea. Some snails have difficulties to turn around. |
